BLACK DRAGON CROWN

This piece is a hard-surface modeling, sculpting, texturing, and rendering composition, a concept by my favorite artist, Ruan Jia, notably his Black Dragon Crown series:

This piece features a dominant pink mech, intricately designed with mechanical precision and adorned with decals, manned by a focused pilot. Accompanying the central figure are two additional characters, each interacting with their high-tech consoles, enhancing the narrative of a dynamic, advanced setting. The final rendering is a testament to the detailed work in dramatic lighting, with neon accents emphasizing the futuristic atmosphere.


Hard-surface modeling for the mech and the scene was executed in Maya, while the three characters were sculpted and built in Zbrush and Maya. I conducted all necessary topology and UV mapping in Maya. Texturing for the mech and the scene was carried out in Mari, whereas the characters' textures were developed in Substance Painter. The scene is illuminated by various light sources using V-Ray, balancing the initial concept and a final dramatic lighting effect. Compositing was done in Nuke to enhance the overall feel.
